Kye Sayers (she/her) has been doing drag in the Chattanooga community for many years; her experience and journey has been one of many trials, tribulations, and triumphs. We caught up with Kye for Women’s History Month to let her tell us a little bit about herself.Â
What you do for your career?
I'm a regional make up artist, skincare specialist, and clean hair care coordinator. I work for Amika, a B Corp clean hair for all hair types, full time while freelancing for major brands like Benefit cosmetics and upcoming independent brands like LYS where I service Tennessee as regional educator and brand expert. I proudly partner with Roseneal Consulting as well where I help amp market share, sales, and education for BIPOC brands within my assigned territory. I love the beauty community deeply and take every opportunity that comes my way to learn and grow more.Â
What do you like to do for fun?
I love to grow plants in my home and garden. I start plants from seed every year like tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers and TOMATOES. A lot of them. 27 varieties last year alone. I lovetomatoes. Did I mention? tomatoes
What is one thing you enjoy about living in the Tennessee Valley Area?
I absolutely love being able to be outside and in the sun while leaning into the land and the earth I am from. I love growing my own nutrient rich food and working the land.
What is one thing you don’t enjoy about living in the Tennessee Valley Area?Â
Feeling afraid to be me even going to the store. I get looks and laughs. I just wish people would see me as a person and not as a freak. I'm a human. I mean nothing but kindness and compassion.Â
What is one hope you have for 2025?Â
I hope that all of us find strength and positivity in the midst of challenges. I hope we all rise above hurting or downing our fellow humans while keeping eyes on the racist, fascist, oligarchy that a small minded group of individuals try to push on our country. We will stand on freedom.Â
When you think of existing as a woman in the LGBTQ+ community, what are some of your superpowers? What are some of the obstacles you’ve encountered?Â
My superpowers are my ability to love and uplift people, organizations, and causes. I love to show others we can set our minds to something and even exceed that if we practice intention and accountability.Â
If you could say one thing to other women in our community, what would it be?Â
Take a moment to rest, relax, and take in all you have worked and lived for.Â
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I want to remind all women and people that the absolute scurvy of the modern world is the use of Christianity, Racism, Classism, and financial gain for the 1% to allow bad people to risk the American people. America is only as great as its weakest link which right now is the white conservative republican trumpian party which risks all our safety by making the economy worse and risking our actual safety and progress as an Already GREAT country! Do not be led into the dark!Â
